Kulmiye Aid Foundation (KAF) is a registered non-governmental organization (NGO) committed to improving the lives of vulnerable communities in Somalia. Since its establishment in 2018, KAF has been at the forefront of delivering impactful humanitarian and development programs focused on climate resilience, livelihoods, environmental sustainability, and the protection and empowerment of internally displaced persons (IDPs). What We Do At Kulmiye Aid Foundation (KAF), we work tirelessly to respond to humanitarian crises and build resilient communities through a variety of innovative programs. Our commitment spans emergency relief, long-term development, and sustainable solutions. Below are the core areas of our work: Emergency Response KAF acts swiftly to deliver life-saving support during emergencies caused by conflict, natural disasters, and displacement. We provide essential services such as: Food distribution Emergency shelter and medical care Protection and safety for vulnerable populations We also strengthen early warning systems and improve response mechanisms to ensure timely, efficient aid delivery. KAF enhances emergency operations by developing standardized operating procedures and strengthening partnerships with local authorities, first responders, and global partners. Shelter & Settlements Temporary shelters are constructed, and shelter kits distributed, ensuring displaced individuals have access to safe, secure living spaces. Our work includes disaster-resilient shelter designs and community-led housing initiatives, promoting ownership and sustainability. Legal aid and land tenure support are also provided to displaced populations. Innovation and Technology KAF leverages technology to improve operational efficiency and aid delivery: Digital payment systems to enhance transparency and streamline aid distribution Drones used for rapid needs assessments, supply deliveries, and remote monitoring Mobile applications that provide real-time information, crisis alerts, and community engagement We employ a data-driven approach, using monitoring and evaluation systems to track program impact and inform decision-making, ensuring efficient resource allocation and improved outcomes. Mental Health and Psychosocial Support KAF offers dedicated mental health services, including counseling and therapy, to help individuals cope with the stress and trauma caused by crises. Our initiatives include: Community health worker training to identify and support those in need Culturally tailored psychosocial programs to meet the diverse needs of affected communities By prioritizing Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS), we ensure individuals receive the care and assistance they need to rebuild their lives. Environmental Sustainability and Climate Action Environmental sustainability is a cornerstone of KAF’s work. We aim to reduce the environmental impact of our operations while increasing resilience to climate change: Sustainable building practices in shelters and infrastructure projects Waste management and recycling programs in camps and communities Renewable energy initiatives to reduce reliance on fossil fuels KAF’s climate change adaptation programs help communities prepare for and mitigate the impacts of extreme weather events, including droughts and floods. We promote sustainable agriculture practices and support disaster risk reduction efforts to build long-term resilience. Youth Empowerment and Peacebuilding KAF believes in empowering youth as agents of change. Our programs include: Leadership training, skill development, and volunteer opportunities Youth-led peacebuilding initiatives to promote social cohesion and conflict resolution Safe spaces for youth to engage in recreation, learning, and networking Our focus on peacebuilding and conflict resolution contributes to long-term stability and social harmony, while creating a pathway for youth to contribute positively to their communities. Support for Children Associated with Armed Forces and Armed Groups (CAAFAG) KAF is deeply committed to supporting children associated with armed forces and armed groups (CAAFAG). Our efforts include: Identification and release of CAAFAG from armed groups Interim care for children while their families are traced Reintegration programs, including psychosocial support, education, and vocational training to help children recover and rebuild their lives Peacebuilding and Conflict Resolution KAF’s work in peacebuilding focuses on addressing the root causes of conflict through: Conflict resolution and mediation programs Community dialogue and reconciliation to promote social cohesion and interfaith understanding Programs aimed at reducing tensions and promoting tolerance in diverse communities
